Jack Whitehall Parents: Meet Michael Whitehall And Hilary Gish

Parents of Jack Whitehall Jack Peter Benedict Whitehall was born in Portland Hospital in London’s West End on July 7, 1988. Whitehall is derived from Welsh barrister Thomas Jones Phillips, a notable Newport Rising opponent (not Mayor Thomas Phillips).

His godfathers were actors Nigel Havers and Richard Griffiths. He attended Tower House School in East Sheen, London, alongside Robert Pattinson.

He often joked that he hated Pattinson for getting the best school play roles.

The casting director didn’t like Whitehall’s audition for Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone (2001) because he hadn’t read the book.

At eight, his parents sent him to boarding school. The Dragon School in Oxford and Marlborough College were his premium schools.

He pursued stand-up comedy throughout his gap year. He quit his art history course at Manchester University after two semesters.

Jack Whitehall career

Whitehall started stand-up comedy in the Pleasance Theatre’s Comedy Reserve presentation at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.

The Fringe featured his sketch show Comic Abuse. Whitehall won the 2007 Charlie Harthill Special Reserve, which was a So You Think You’re Funny? finalist, and placed second in the Laughing Horse New Act of the Year competition.

He was also a 2008 Chortle Awards “Best Newcomer” and Hackney Empire New Act of the Year finalist.

Whitehall debuted Nearly Rebellious, his solo stand-up performance, at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in August 2009.

At the Edinburgh Comedy Awards that year, he was nominated for “Best Newcomer”. In September 2009, Whitehall was accused of copying a Stewart Lee stand-up performance for his popular Nearly Rebellious show.

The Comedy Network videotaped Lee during the 1990s Montreal Just for Laughs comedy festival making the joke about life after space travel.

Whitehall was criticised for “repeating” Lee’s comedy “almost verbatim” in a favourable 2009 Edinburgh Fringe review.

Robbie Williams was accused of copying one of Whitehall’s jokes during his well-publicized “comeback” performance at the Camden Roundhouse for the BBC’s electric proms on October 20, 2009.

TV station Dave named Whitehall’s one-liner “to look down on someone” the seventh funniest of the Edinburgh Fringe.

Whitehall was allegedly seen using cocaine in Manchester on June 20, 2010, by the News of the World.

He apologised instantly but did neither confirm or deny the charges. Whitehall and Patrick Kielty debuted on Stand Up for the Week later that week. Kielty mocked the piece.

The Channel 4 Comedy Gala, filmed live at London’s O2 Arena on March 30, benefitted Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital and was shown on April 5. Whitehall performed.

In January 2011, Whitehall was a British Comedy Awards ‘Best Comedy Breakthrough’ contender.

He, Dara Briain, and Jon Richardson hosted the “Highest stand-up comedy gig in the world” aboard a British Airways aircraft for Comic Relief on March 12, setting a Guinness World Records record.

Whitehall appeared at the second Channel 4 Comedy Gala on May 24, televised on June 10.

Whitehall made fun of Queen Elizabeth II on The Big Fat Quiz of the Year on December 30, 2012. Ofcom received complaints about the hoax the next day.
